Back by Midnite

Last night, B.'s friend Ricky invited us to watch Pop Filter perform at Mayric's. A lot of bands were performing that night, among them Pop Filter and Milk and Money (both bands have songs on rotation at NU). Ricky is an IT consultant/independent contractor/musician/composer, and he's writing some songs for Pop Filter's album.

We were watching the other bands perform, waiting for Pop Filter's set, and then this all-girl band came up on stage. There were only 3 of them, and we were thinking, "wow, all girls. ano kaya tugtog nila, acoustic? kitchie nadal?". Suddenly, the opening strains of Metallica's "Enter Sandman" came up. Cool! They were doing the ultimate heavy metal song! Everyone took a second look. Will the band do justice to Enter Sandman?

Say your prayers little one
Don't forget, my son
To include everyone

Tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land
The lead singer growled. And I mean growled. While singing, both she and the bassist were swinging their heads round and round, their hair covering their faces Sadako-like. They did another Metallica song after that, and their original songs, all of which were totally growling heavy metal stuff. Her speaking voice was really normal, but when she sang, boy, her voice really changed. Check out their website. The band is Back by Midnite, and they're from Davao City.
